Dear David,

My name is Blankety Blank and I not a happy camper. I was hired by Sleepys recruiters and was told that I would make a 6 figure income working in one of Sleepys showrooms in the Baltimore/Washington area as a Mattress salesperson. When I actually got to one of the locations (DJ) I was told by my mentor that I would not earn anything close to that amount.

I am an MBA with 30 years of management experiece (10 at C-level) who absolutely needs that kind of remuneration to pay a mortgage, college tuitions, kids medical bills, etc. I also turned down a 6 figure offer from Coca-Cola to come on with Sleepys as a potential manager.

Now my bills are due, mortgage, property taxes etc, and I have 0 dollars in the bank due to 4 weeks of making next to no income as a Sleepys Mattress professional. I gave my notice to Jon Nobles today.

I feel I have been lied to and that I have wasted one month of which I could have been earning REAL money with another company. This whole ordeal has done nothing but cost me a whole lot of money.

Now, fraud is illegal and I plan on getting legal counsel to get some type of settlement to offset the cost of me paying for meals, and lost wages.

Please contact XXXX at XXX-XXX-XXXX.

Location: Baltimore, Maryland

The sleepys company is a slick company to get people to sit in their show room for a lot less then minimum wage and have the nerve to say that you owe them money.

It's now mid June 2015. As a current employee they have changed the selling game to benefit most of the DMs and the corporate owners.

Understand that this is a private company. There is a lot of apparent favoritism. You will need multiple incomes coming in your household because you cannot rely on this to cover major expenses and rent/mortgage. The training is decent but the reality is worse.

This job promotes severe laziness. You will be told that you will work by yourself once in a while. In reality you work 12 hours alone in 95% of the NYC/Brooklyn/Queens/Staten island/New Jersey locations on a regular basis of you work five days a week. This is a company that changes its policies as often as a baby has its diaper changed.

Upper Management does its best to spin gold thread out of rusty Brillo pads but each policy /commision change does not increase the sales persons pay check. Since it is a draw vs commission pay I was told that draw ($125.) can easily be achieved with in the first sale...but I learned that is not so. Commissions rate is based on tiers [list price vs Sleepys price] Once you go below Sleepys price you are literally paying for the customers mattress/set. What I mean to say is your commission drops.

But the company had been around for years and this haggling process is automatically assumed. In 1975 my parents had a 4 bedroom apartment for $125.00 a month. Today that same apartment might be $3500. a month.

There are individuals that have worked with this company since the mid 70's and 80's ...of they have rent stabilization...then they are great. Everyone one else is forced to haggle to make a sale. One true thing I believe about the products sold...a mattress is not just a mattress...it's the "rest" of your life. Some of the best quality mattresses are from $1200.

And over $2000. But when someone haggled you down in price and you looking at a $8. Commision and you haven't made a sale in three days because you have been placed in one of the slowest stores (and there are many) or there is another Sleepys around the corner, you lose a piece of your soul. You beg management to help you make money and pay your debt and try to earn a positive income by placing you in a store with actual foot traffic.

Now you have lost a bit of dignity. Your an educated individual, your a self motivated individual, you are a people person. But none of that matters of you can't make the sale. None of it matters of you don't see anyone that day.

All that matters is that you didn't make draw and you owe the company another $125.

(or $118 if you commision for the day is $8.00) So if you decide to work at Sleepys, have an escape plan. Otherwise try to work at Starbucks or McDonald's.

If this Person is truthful than they show a complete ignorance of understanding how he was hired, the job marketplace, being "sold" a job by a sales person, and how understand a normal approach in considering a job offer made.

It's all true. All though this comments is 2 years old current recruiters have adjusted the over inflated possible income to make you assume that you can earn more than your previous job.

This job is not for people who have large bills and a family to feed unless you and your family are all working for this company. Basically if a high end mattress or set can be sold at least 6 times in one week by one rep you have the potential an average of $400-500 per day in a 5 day work week. Its possible... but not 6 times in a week.

There are showrooms that will have one person and others will have 2 or three. If one person closes the sale of $6000 the commissions he earns my be about $400. yet will have to split it with the other sales person or manager. Now you just earned $200. But if the same mattress gets a discounted your commission drops...FAST.

It is a true numbers game. When ever Sleepy's has a Holiday Sale the rep make no money on those sales but if a customer wants it then it gets sold. Advertising of mattresses help to bring customers in but mostly based on perception of quality. Too often people believe that a firm mattress is the best mattress so ads will have firm mattress sets at a severely discounted price.

Again the rep makes little money ($10) but the customer only wants to spend the amount of the sale price. It is the job of the sales rep to upsell. Otherwise give the customer what they want, educate them on the exchange policy set the delivery and get them out the door because if they want a queen size mattress set for $200 then they get what they pay for...wish them luck and pray that its not you only sale for the day otherwise that $10 commission sale would be the equivalent of $1 per hour because that is the amount of hours (10) you have to work. Working at sleepy's is not for people that need to be entertained at work.

You will need to be able to work by yourself and get very little help from managers. This is a good job or someone that is retired, semi-lazy young adult, parent with stable child care (low cost) healthy(ish), and is willing to sell. There is no salary. :roll and I have gone hungry at times because I need more food at home than for lunch at work.

You can easily be nickled and dimed if your not paying attention to the check.
